In week 37 (9-13 September), the HvA minor SYBIT (Startup Your Business In Technology) is organising another "entrepreneurial opportunities" session. This involves an opportunity to bring product ideas, which are currently "on the shelf", to life and to the market by a student team that will set up a startup. The students must be able to use it commercially, and collaboration with the proposing party can take various forms or under certain conditions/agreements.

The product idea will be pitched to the group in a Meet&Match session on Tuesday 10 September from 14:00 to 16:30.

Minor SYBIT

What does the minor SYBIT stand for? SYBIT is a minor programme of the HvA that starts in September for the eleventh time and continues until February 2020, SYBIT stands for Start Your Business In Technology. "We run the programme with about 35 technical students (including Technische Bedrijfskunde, Industrial Design Engineering, Bouwkunde, Aviation, Electrotechniek etc)," says Marc Barends, who supervises the project. "A few students from outside the HvA have also been admitted, which makes the group even more diverse. The aim of SYBIT is to take a technology to the market with a startup of a few people. In doing so, we try to connect to a broader social theme. The metropolitan issues in Amsterdam are interesting to us in this respect, because of their social relevance, our connection with the city, but also because we encounter similar issues in larger or smaller settings. Festivals are also cited as areas of work, with contacts and sessions from various stakeholders. In the minor, they get a load of coaching, experiences, sessions and inspiration to put the startup firmly on the map, partly because they are regularly stimulated by external experienced stakeholders, investors or bully sessions. A wide relevant range is covered: personal development, technology, marketing, investment, IP, logistics, legal, business model and so on. After a grand public end event, the startups can develop further in a graduation or internship and then they can continue to grow in our own incubator to stand on their own feet. This pipeline has been filling and expanding over the past few years and has produced several interesting startups."
