Canadian homebuilder CABN recently unveiled its 70 sq m modular climate-neutral home. It can be assembled within days and completed within weeks. The prefabricated house stands out for its energy efficiency: only 20 per cent of the energy a traditional house consumes. The innovative solution is being used for the first time for 67 off-grid, climate-neutral units.
The units come with one, two, three or four bedrooms. Each model is prefabricated using FSC-certified laminated timber and incorporates waste and water-saving solutions into the design. Smart home technology is also integrated into the homes, allowing residents to control water and waste systems themselves.
The design is beautiful and modern, replete with cool interior wood panelling, large panoramic windows, a minimalist Scandinavian aesthetic and floors made of renewable cork. The large windows bring an abundance of natural light into the interiors, creating a bright and cosy atmosphere.
CABN homes are designed with optimum energy and heating performance in mind. Thus, regardless of the climate, they are always comfortable. Solar panels and solar shading systems are integrated into the building design. Drastic temperature fluctuations are therefore ruled out throughout the year. By carefully considering elements such as roof pitch and window placement in relation to the sun's orientation, CABN has created a particularly sustainable design.
The one-bedroom house has an open-plan living and dining area, with a modern kitchen, a large living room with wood-burning stove, adjacent to a 24 m² wooden terrace that surrounds the house. An additional outdoor lounge has also been added, offering shelter from the sun. The house also has double-height ceilings, a raised loft bedroom overlooking the living area, built-in storage and closet space, sliding doors to save space and a modern bathroom.
