Companies that want to jointly share power on a business park or farmers who want to store excess solar power in a battery can get a grant from the province of North Holland to do so. The same applies to resident collectives that want to store energy together or other smart solutions that relieve the electricity grid. The province is also investing a total of EUR 1.5 million in a subsidy in 2023 to enable these solutions.

This is the second opening of the subsidy solutions at grid congestion (SON) to relieve the electricity grid. The scheme was oversubscribed within 10 days in 2022. The high interest shows that the subsidy scheme meets a need and companies want to get started with it.

Energy demand

Electricity demand is growing fast. More and more houses are switching to heat pumps. The number of electric cars is growing and companies are electrifying to become more sustainable. More and more places are also generating energy locally through solar and wind farms. As a result, the electricity network has reached its maximum capacity in several places in the province. Together with the grid managers and municipalities, the province is doing everything possible to ensure that the electricity grid in North Holland continues to function optimally.

Energy solutions

There are a variety of alternative solutions that make efficient or limited use of the electricity grid. Such smart energy solutions are in many cases quicker to implement than grid extensions. Sometimes they are temporary solutions, until grid extensions are completed. Often, they are also sustainable solutions for the future.

Feasibility and realisation

The grant can be used to carry out a feasibility study and for the actual realisation of solutions. A maximum of €250,000 is available per partnership for a collective solution, individual parties are eligible for up to €75,000. From 23 May to 30 November 2023, the subsidy can be applied for via the province's subsidy office .
