As far as we're concerned, this innovation fits into the category: you want it. The currently much discussed Hitch Hotel is a compact caravan that does not need to be attached to the tow bar. You transport it by attaching it to the tow bar. This makes a huge difference in weight and speed.

It is an American invention, but is now finding its way to travel enthusiasts from all over the world via the internet. It has also been much discussed in Dutch media: this caravan with no drag and wheels. This will certainly also have something to do with the fact that rules for towing a caravan are becoming increasingly strict.

On the tow bar

The Hitch Hotel actually makes things easy for any car traveller. You no longer need a big SUV or van to create sleeping space. With Hitch Hotel, you always have your own hotel room with you, so to speak. The Hitch Hotel couples to any vehicle with a minimum class 2 towbar and will go as far as you want to go. With no wheels and fully suspended from the ground, it is designed to provide a safe and streamlined place to sleep in. Closed, the Hitch measures about 5.5 square metres and serves as boot space for luggage and possibly even bicycles. Once arrived at a location, a convenient system allows the caravan to be extended into a sleeping space of about 12 square metres that can accommodate about two to three adults. Four folding legs, shaped like small ladders, put the caravan firmly on the ground. the Hitch Hotel weighs over 100 kilos.

Some other features of the caravan are highlighted on Kickstarter: including roof ventilation, a ventilation window, retractable legs, rear lights and side handles. It is also possible to order the caravan in different colours. It is unclear to us what material the Hitch Hotel is made of.

Not yet built

The Hitch Hotel has now comfortably secured the desired investment of $100,000 on Kickstarter. Manufacturing is said to have started by now and the first units should be delivered in September. So who knows, you might bump into the Hitch Hotel somewhere on the campsite next year.
