In the world of superyachts, money plays no role. To still stand out in the superyacht crowd, Italian shipyard Codecasa now comes up with something completely new. The new 70-metre-long Jet 2020 combines sea and air and looks like an aircraft that was given a new life as an ocean liner.

Fulvio Codecasa is determined to create a unique design for a yacht. He takes inspiration from shipbuilding and creates a ship's bow that looks like it was plucked straight off an aircraft. The shape of the hull widens aft, with windows arranged in a remarkable pattern.

Combining sea and air transport

Halfway down the length of the hull, aviation gives way to seafaring and the hull opens up to a 20m-long central sun deck. The deck lends itself to relaxation and recreation and has a sunken swimming pool, an indoor gym and a bar. Outdoor dining and lounging can also be enjoyed here. At the rear, the hull opens up, enhancing the idea of jet engines. Above it, the central deck merges into an aircraft-like tail where (medium-) large helicopters can land. The glass "Skylounge", sandwiched between this helideck and the main deck, includes a dining room and lounge.

The bow houses the owner's suite while four guest cabins plus crew quarters fill the lower deck. A lift connects these two decks to the bridge deck, where the wheelhouse and captain's cabin are located.

The Jet 2020 may seem like the fanciful work of an independent designer, but it is actually a serious proposal from a nearly 200-year-old shipyard. Codecasa is still finalising the technical details, but plans to make the Jet 2020 its flagship, with construction set to begin tentatively in the middle of this year.
